Artist Statement

What drew me most to the idea of tarot is the therapeutic value to them. Even if you don’t believe in the spiritual qualities, they're still a valuable way to process events and feelings in life, and I think that’s really interesting. When I was making these I was most interested in the symbolism I could implement to portray meaning. I experimented with some new mediums and styles so it doesn’t so much resemble the rest of my work, but the product is still worthwhile!

Bea McDowell is a freshman who likes bugs and sandals. In her free time she enjoys exploring nature, picking up trash, and listening to music. Her work portrays her interests along with feminist ideas.
