Ella Smith

Artist Statement

This collection of pieces is based upon my affinity for the artist Ariana Grande- the best person ever. Her music and her character have inspired me to create a series of figure drawings of her on her Sweetener World Tour. Her tour outfits are very unique and luxurious, adding to her already lively stage presence. I wanted to channel this liveliness through my figure works of a variety of mediums, demonstrating her versatility. This collection is intended to embrace the concepts her music portrays whether it be via choreographic display or facial expression.

Ella Smith is a Junior at the Renaissance School in Charlottesville, Virginia. She is truly a “renaissance” student as she loves subjects from synthetic biology to figure drawing. Outside of school, she likes working in a lab and playing video games.

 

Her motivation for art is based upon two things; the interest of anatomical figures and the expression of emotional context through abstraction. She has taken Visual Art and Studio Art at the Renaissance School, where she has been able to improve on her art skills via lots of practice
