The Butterfly Dress

Artist Statement 

 

My current art piece is using various types of paper to create a full-size gown by the end of the year. The theme of the gown depicts a butterfly: the elegance and feathery appearance the creature portrays into the dress. The design shares my love for detail and accuracy by making the paper material look like the article in life. Each different creation of art (it may be a fashion design or a sketch) draws my attention. It makes me appreciate those artists for having a mind of their own and have the capability of creating a unique piece. It’s like a new invention, one that hasn't been made or discovered.

Tigist Downs-Reeve expresses her soft and kind nature in her artwork by using pastel colors and various vibrant colors. Her passions are reflected in the beauty of portraits and capturing the natural feel in every artwork she creates. She enjoys challenging herself by using different mediums and subjects in each of her pieces. Her sense of detail allows her to appreciate the importance of the complexity involved in one single object. When she replicates an art composition or she is creating her own, her outcome is light in tone and texture; to capture her personality and style to an audience. When she is in the process of creating a piece you see a different side of her; annoyed, frustrated, and impatient. Not her everyday personality.
